What are the Australian Government's plans to censor the internet (the so-called "Clean Feed")?-  in 2008 the governing Australian Labor Party has proposed to extend Internet censorship to a system of mandatory filtering of overseas websites which are, or potentially would be, "refused classification" (RC) in Australia. This means that internet service providers would be required to block access to such content for all users.

Week 8 tutorial task

The progress of our production is going along smoothly, we have written the script and also created the mock twitter accounts of both Facebook and Google +. Our group has also started screen recording the conversation between Facebook and Google, although this is a relatively simple recording concept we did find some bits difficult towards linking the conversation as we required two computers and a reliant internet connection which at times was unstable.  As long as we do not defemate either group and use the video in the correct context I believe we will not have any copyright issues.

Week 8 Response To content

Where does free software come from?
Free software is software that gives you the user the freedom to share, study and modify it. We call this free software because the user is free.  free software is to make a political and ethical choice asserting the right to learn, and share what we learn with others.  Free software has become the foundation of a learning society where we share our knowledge in a way that others can build upon and enjoy

Free software is a matter of the users' freedom to run, copy, distribute, study, change and improve the software. More precisely, it refers to four kinds of freedom, for the users of the software:
  • The freedom to run the program, for any purpose (freedom 0).
  • The freedom to study how the program works, and adapt it to your needs (freedom 1). Access to the source code is a precondition for this.
  • The freedom to redistribute copies so you can help your neighbor (freedom 2).
  • The freedom to improve the program, and release your improvements to the public, so that the whole community benefits (freedom 3). Access to the source code is a precondition for this.
A program is free software if users have all of these freedoms. Thus, you should be free to redistribute copies, either with or without modifications, either gratis or charging a fee for distribution, to anyone anywhere. Being free to do these things means (among other things) that you do not have to ask or pay for permission.

The freedom to use a program means the freedom for any kind of person or organization to use it on any kind of computer system, for any kind of overall job, and without being required to communicate subsequently with the developer or any other specific entity.

Week 7 Tutorial Task

As I did not attend class this week due to illness, I will report on our concept for the production. Our video concept is to incorporate social media networks within eachother. As twitter is growing by the minute, our group decided to create a mock twitter coversation between social media giants Facebook and the new but ever growing google +. Our idea is to create human like conversation between facebook and google + about the development of each organisation and the percieved reaction both may have if they were human like. As twitter is one fastest growing chat rooms available we thought it would be a good idea to utilise this in our production. We are intending to use a program called screen shot available on an Apple Macbook that has the ability to screen record our mock twitter conversation between Facbook and Google +,  the production should not have any copyright or defamation issues as all of the content is recorded by ourselves and we did not use the direct names of Facebook and Google + nor did we defemate either organisation.

Why does Facebook work?
There are numerous reasons why facebook is so popular and unlike many other social networking and online chat sights has no signs of slowing down. The popularity of the Internet has exploded in recent years, and it is no coincidence that social media followed soon after.  Whether it be sharing photos and events with your friend, posting your opinions or advertising your brand, what makes Facebook  so powerful is that it has its finger in almost everything. You can keep in touch your favorite business and products, sporting teams, celebritys or just have a chat with your circle of friends. Facebook has tabs available on almost every internet browser and gives you the option to friend almost any company which assist in growing their brand. I believe the key to facebook survivng and leaving many behind is the product is still simple and anyfrom from 8 to 80 can use the product with a little practise.

Week 6 Tutorial Task

eploring cheap AV production tools

This week do a short report on different production tools that you might use and explain your basic concept in one sentence.
1) how you can add elements that you have created (photos, music, video from your phone etc) into the production  - While watching a number of examples we have decided to use elements such as video and music to enhance our production. An example we watched gave us an idea to pursure, this was that of still video imaging that showed writing on the screen with a catchy song. We have decided to incorporate twitter as our video production and utilise apples screen video application to film the production.

2) Problems you may have with copyright over elements that you did not create- Problems that our group may have when doing our production, is dealing with copyright issues with both facebook and twitter. as our production is about the relationship with twitter, facebook and google+ we must "imitate the groups" without breaching copyright issues. Ways to evade an legal issuse what be to not defemate any of the organisations or use direct names of the companys involved.

3) the dangers of defamation (saying or implying something that harms another's reputation). As long as the production is undertake in the correct manner defamation should not be an issue. Our production is not aimed to harms any companys or anyones reputation it is merely to illustrate the relationship that may occur between google+ and Facebook if they were living content.

Week 6 Response to content

The internet is not some fad that the Hollywood industry can beat, it is here to stay and has no signs of slowing down. The internet now controls most of our lives with banking, emails and now movies at a click of a button. Both the Music and Film Industry has taken a hit from the internet and it s streaming ability to access almost anything available on TV or in the cinemas. Initially many worried that illegal downloads and pirating could be a massive cost to the entertainment industry, although this is still a worry many companies have begun working within the internet to give its users acces to its products online. The likes of itunes and a number of video providing websites have allowed the interent users to buy single songs and movies online at a cheap enough price that they will purchase this prouduct online rather than download it illegally.
